How to add FAQPage schema to your storefront pages

Written by Abhishek

FAQPage schema turns a question-and-answer section on your page into structured data that search engines and AI assistants can read. Add it anywhere you answer common customer questions — your homepage, product pages, collections, blog articles, or content pages.

Configure it under Schema markup → FAQ.

Where you can add FAQPage schema

InstaIndex supports FAQPage schema on five page types:

  • Homepage — one FAQPage entry for your store's homepage.

  • Product — Q&A specific to a single product.

  • Collection — Q&A for a collection page (sizing guides, category questions).

  • Blog post — Q&A appended to a blog post.

  • Page — Q&A on any standard Shopify page (shipping, returns, about, etc.).

Each resource can have its own FAQPage schema. You can add as many Q&A pairs to each as you need.

Good use cases

  • Homepage — brand story, what you sell, who you serve, where you ship.

  • Product pages — fit and sizing, materials, care instructions, compatibility, shipping for this product.

  • Collection pages — how to choose between products in the collection, sizing across the range.

  • Shipping/returns/policy pages — turn long-form policy content into scannable Q&A.

  • Blog articles — recap key questions the article addresses.

Add FAQs to a page

  1. Click Add FAQ schema.

  2. Choose the resource type — Homepage, Page, Product, Collection, or Article.

  3. Pick the specific page — start typing to search your Shopify resources. (Skipped for Homepage.)

  4. InstaIndex analyzes the page:

    • If the page already has FAQPage schema from another app or your theme, you'll be warned. Click Contact support to consolidate, or proceed knowing both sources will publish (not recommended — see How to fix duplicate schema issues).

    • If the page has visible Q&A content but no structured data, the questions and answers are extracted as a starting point.

    • If no Q&A is detected, you start with a blank pair.

  5. Review and edit each question and answer. The text must match what's visible on the page — a Google requirement for FAQPage rich results.

  6. Click Save.

Content rules

  • Match visible content. Every question and answer in your schema should also appear visibly on the page. Google explicitly disallows FAQPage schema for content that isn't shown to users.

  • Update both sides when copy changes. If you change the visible Q&A on a page (or rephrase an answer), update the InstaIndex FAQ entry to match.

  • One FAQPage per resource. Each product, page, article, etc. has at most one FAQPage schema. If you need more questions, add them as more entries to the same set.

  • Keep answers complete. Each answer should stand on its own — don't truncate or use "see above" references.

  • Avoid promotional or ad-style content in FAQs intended for Google FAQ rich results — Google may reject them.

A note on Google FAQ rich results

In 2023, Google narrowed FAQ rich-result eligibility to government and authoritative health sources. Most commerce sites won't see FAQ rich snippets in Google search results.

FAQPage schema is still worth adding because:

  • AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, etc.) use it to answer customer questions in conversational search.

  • Bing and other search engines still display FAQ rich results.

  • It publishes the same Q&A to humans, search engines, and AI tools in one place.

Validate your changes

After saving, paste the page URL into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator to confirm FAQPage is detected with all your questions and answers.

If duplicate FAQPage entries appear, see How to fix duplicate schema issues.
