Understanding AI visibility

Written by Abhishek

People are increasingly using AI tools to search for information, ask questions, and discover products. Instead of browsing multiple websites, users rely on direct answers generated by AI. AI visibility is a feature designed to help you understand how your store appears in such responses.

What is AI visibility

AI visibility allows you to analyze how your store performs across AI-driven queries. It tracks the prompts (questions) users ask and shows whether your brand is being mentioned, recommended, or not included at all. This allows you to understand how your store performs beyond traditional search engines and keyword rankings.

Why is it important for your store

As search behavior shifts toward AI platforms, visibility is no longer limited to search engine results pages. Your position within AI responses can directly impact whether users discover your brand or a competitor. Without tracking this, it is difficult to understand how your store is performing in this new search landscape.

AI visibility gives you the ability to run custom prompts and track how your brand along with your competitors appears in AI-generated answers. You can monitor rankings by checking where your store is positioned within these responses and how often it is being mentioned. These prompts are run at regular intervals, giving you consistent and reliable data.

With this information, you can make more informed decisions about your content, product descriptions, and overall SEO strategy.

AI visibility ensures that you are not just optimizing for traditional SEO but also staying relevant in AI-driven search.

How it works

You create prompts — questions a potential customer might ask an AI assistant, like "What are the best running shoes for beginners?" These prompts are automatically sent to the AI models you've selected on a regular schedule. Each response is then analyzed for brand mentions, competitor mentions, position, sentiment, and more. The results are aggregated and displayed across the dashboard, reports, and individual prompt detail pages.

Supported AI models

When creating a prompt, you choose which models to track. By default, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude are selected.

What metrics are tracked

AI visibility tracks several metrics to give you a complete picture of your brand's presence in AI responses.

Metric

What it measures

Share of voice

The percentage of AI responses that mention your brand across all tracked prompts. Higher is better.

Avg. position

The average first mention position of your brand in AI responses. Lower is better (e.g., #1 means you're listed first).

Avg. prominence

How central your brand is to the AI response, scored on a 1–10 scale. A score of 10 means your brand is the main topic; 1 means it's barely mentioned in passing.

Citation rate

The percentage of AI responses that cite your store URL.

Sentiment

The tone of how your brand is mentioned: positive, neutral, negative, or mixed. Displayed as the percentage of positive mentions.

Mention context

How your brand is referenced: as a recommendation, comparison, alternative, warning, or neutral mention.

Understanding the dashboard

The dashboard gives you a high-level view of how your brand is performing across all your prompts and AI models.

Overview statistics

At the top, five cards summarize your key metrics:

  • Share of voice — Percentage of AI responses that mention your brand across all tracked prompts.

  • Avg. position — Average first mention position of your brand in AI responses. Lower is better.

  • Avg. prominence — Average prominence score (1–10) of your brand in AI responses. Higher is better.

  • Citation rate — Percentage of AI responses that cite your store URL.

  • Sentiment — Shown as the percentage of mentions with positive sentiment. Gives you a quick read on how favorably AI models discuss your brand.

Each card also shows the change compared to the previous period, so you can tell at a glance whether things are improving or declining.

Competitive scorecard

A table comparing your brand against your configured competitors. For each brand, you'll see:

  • SOV — Percentage of AI responses that mention this brand.

  • Avg. position — Average first mention position. Lower is better.

  • Avg. prominence — Average prominence score (1–10). Higher means more prominently featured.

  • Sentiment — Most common sentiment toward this brand.

  • Mentions — Total number of AI responses that mention this brand in the selected period.

The table is sortable by any column, making it easy to see where you stand relative to the competition.

Share of voice over time

A line chart showing the percentage of AI responses that mention your brand and competitors over time, plotted for the selected period. Use this to:

  • Spot trends in your brand's visibility

  • See how competitor visibility changes over time

  • Correlate changes with content updates or marketing campaigns

Date range filter

Use the period selector at the top of the page to view data for the last 7, 14, 30, or 90 days. The default is 30 days.

Plan limits

AI visibility is available on Premium and Business plans (and legacy Pro, Plus, and Enterprise plans).

Plan

Prompt limit

Premium

Business

If you're on a Basic plan or a legacy Starter, Lite, or Standard plan, you'll see an upgrade banner when navigating to the AI visibility section.

Execution schedule

When you create a prompt, it is first executed at the next midnight (UTC). After that, it runs automatically every 7 days. Each execution sends the prompt to all the AI models you've selected, and the results are analyzed and stored. You don't need to trigger anything manually.

Getting started

To start using AI visibility:

  1. Navigate to AI SEO → AI visibility in the app.

  2. Go to Settings and configure your brand name, aliases, and domains.

  3. Optionally, add competitors you want to track.

  4. Go to Prompts and create your first prompt — or use the auto-generate feature to get suggestions.

  5. Your prompts will first run at the next midnight (UTC), then every 7 days after that.

  6. Check the Dashboard and Reports for results.
