Managing prompts

Written by Abhishek

Prompts are the core of AI visibility. Each prompt is a question that gets sent to AI models on a regular schedule, and the responses are analyzed to see how your brand appears. The Prompts page under AI SEO → AI visibility → Prompts is where you manage all your prompts.

What makes a good prompt

A good prompt is a question that a potential customer might ask an AI assistant when researching your product category. It should be:

  • Customer-focused — Write from the buyer's perspective, not your brand's. Ask what a shopper would ask, not what you'd want the AI to say.

  • Category-relevant — Target your product category or niche, not your brand name directly. "What are the best running shoes for beginners?" is better than "Is [Your Brand] good?"

  • Specific enough — "Best eco-friendly sneakers under $150" is more useful than "best shoes" because it mirrors how real users query AI tools.

  • Varied — Cover different angles: product comparisons, buying guides, "best of" lists, specific features, or use cases.

Good examples:

  • "What are the best running shoes for beginners?"

  • "Which eco-friendly fashion brands are trending right now?"

  • "What's the best moisturizer for sensitive skin?"

  • "Compare the top standing desks for home offices"

Less effective examples:

  • "Tell me about [Your Brand]" — Too brand-specific; won't show competitive landscape

  • "Shoes" — Too vague; AI will give a broad response that's hard to analyze

The prompts page shows all your prompts in a table with the following columns:

Creating a prompt

Click the Add prompt button to open the prompt form. Fill in:

Prompt text

The question to send to AI models. Maximum 500 characters. Write it as a question a shopper would ask an AI assistant about your product category.

Tags

Comma-separated tags to organize your prompts (e.g., "running shoes, beginners"). Tags help you group and find prompts later, especially when you have many.

AI models

Select which AI models to run this prompt against. Available models:

  • ChatGPT (OpenAI)

  • Perplexity

  • Gemini (Google)

  • Claude (Anthropic)

  • Grok (xAI)

By default, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude are selected. You can select or deselect any combination, but at least one model must be selected.

Country

Optional. If set, the AI models will be instructed to localize their responses to this country. This is useful if your store targets a specific market, for example, setting "United States" ensures responses reflect the US market rather than a global perspective.

Click Add prompt to save. The prompt will first be executed at the next midnight (UTC).

Auto-generating prompts

If you're not sure what prompts to create, the auto-generate feature can help. Click Auto-generate prompts to open the generation modal.

Step 1: Configure

  • Number of prompts — Choose how many to generate (1–10, limited by your remaining capacity).

  • Additional instructions — Optional guidance to steer the AI. For example, "Focus on running shoes and athletic wear" or "Include price-comparison queries."

Click Generate to create suggestions. The system uses your store's product types and collections to generate relevant prompts.

Step 2: Review and select

After generation, you'll see a list of suggested prompts with their tags. Each suggestion has a checkbox — all are pre-selected by default.

  • Review the suggestions and deselect any that aren't relevant.

  • Click Save X prompts to add the selected prompts.

Auto-generated prompts are filtered against your existing prompts to avoid duplicates.

Editing a prompt

From the prompt detail page, click Edit in the secondary actions menu. The same form opens with your current values pre-filled. Make your changes and click Save.

Pausing and resuming prompts

You can pause a prompt to stop it from being executed without deleting it. From the prompt detail page:

  • Click Pause in the secondary actions to stop execution. The prompt keeps its historical data.

  • Click Resume to start executing it again on the next scheduled run.

Paused prompts appear with a gray "Paused" badge in the prompts list and are accessible under the "Paused" tab.

Deleting prompts

Single prompt

From the prompt detail page, click Delete in the secondary actions. You'll be asked to confirm before the prompt and its results are removed.

Bulk delete

From the prompts list, select multiple prompts using the checkboxes, then choose the Delete prompts bulk action. Confirm the deletion in the dialog.

Prompt limits

The number of prompts you can create depends on your plan:

Plan

Prompt limit

Premium

10

Business

50

If you've reached your limit, you'll need to delete existing prompts or upgrade your plan to add more.

When prompts are executed

When you create or resume a prompt, it is first executed at the next midnight (UTC). After that, it runs automatically every 7 days. Each execution sends the prompt to all selected AI models, and the responses are analyzed in parallel. Results typically appear in your dashboard within minutes of execution completing.

You don't need to trigger executions manually. After each execution, the prompt's last executed timestamp updates, and new data appears in the dashboard, reports, and prompt detail page.
