Before AI visibility can accurately detect mentions of your brand in AI responses, you need to configure your brand identity and optionally add competitors to track. This is done on the Settings page under AI SEO → AI visibility → Settings.
Brand configuration
Your brand configuration tells the system what to look for when analyzing AI responses. The more complete your configuration, the more accurately mentions will be detected.
Brand name
Your primary brand name. This is pre-filled from your shop name but can be changed to match how customers know you. For example, if your shop is called "Allbirds Official Store" but customers search for "Allbirds", use "Allbirds" here.
Aliases
Alternative names, spellings, or abbreviations that people might use for your brand. Add these so the system catches mentions even when the AI uses a different form of your name.
Examples:
"All Birds" (alternative spelling of "Allbirds")
"Nike Inc." (formal name alongside "Nike")
"lululemon" (lowercase variation of "Lululemon")
To add an alias, type it in the field and select the "Add" option that appears. Remove aliases by clicking the × on the tag.
Domains
Your store's domain(s). These are used to detect when AI responses cite your website URL, which drives the citation rate metric.
Examples:
allbirds.com
mystore.myshopify.com
Add domains the same way as aliases — type and select the "Add" option.
Saving changes
Brand configuration uses the contextual save bar. When you make changes, the save bar appears at the top of the page. Click Save to persist your changes or Discard to revert.
Competitors
Adding competitors lets you track how other brands appear alongside yours in AI responses. You can compare share of voice, rankings, prominence, and sentiment across brands.
Adding a competitor
Click Add competitor on the settings page. In the modal, enter:
Name — The competitor's brand name (e.g., "Nike")
Aliases (optional) — Alternative names or spellings (e.g., "Nike Inc.", "Nike Sports")
Domains (optional) — The competitor's website domains (e.g., "nike.com")
Click Add competitor to save. The competitor will appear in your results starting from the next prompt execution.
Editing a competitor
Click the edit icon next to any competitor to update their name, aliases, or domains. Changes take effect immediately for future analyses.
Deleting a competitor
Click the delete icon next to a competitor. You'll be asked to confirm before the competitor is removed. Historical data for that competitor remains in your reports.
Competitor limits
The number of competitors you can add depends on your plan:
Plan | Competitor limit |
Premium | 5 |
Business | 20 |
The current count is displayed in the card header (e.g., "Competitors (3 / 5)").
Quick add from reports
The New competitors report under AI visibility reports shows brands that AI models mentioned in responses but aren't in your tracked list. You can click to add them directly — the settings page will open with the competitor name pre-filled.
Tips for better detection
Be thorough with aliases. If your brand name has common misspellings, abbreviations, or formal variations, add them. AI models may refer to your brand in unexpected ways.
Add all relevant domains. If you have multiple storefronts or a custom domain alongside your .myshopify.com URL, include both.
Review new competitors regularly. The New competitors report surfaces brands you may not have thought to track. Adding them gives you a more complete competitive picture.
Keep competitor info up to date. If a competitor rebrands or changes their domain, update their configuration so detection stays accurate.
